Project Spotlight: A Modern Mediterranean Oasis

At Stone Yard, we love collaborating with designers to help craft a space that matches their client’s design dream. Recently, we were delighted to be contacted by Deluxe Designs of Arizona , who asked us to help them create a mediterranean-inspired backyard for their homeowner client. The result? Exactly what their client envisioned: a calming, nature-inspired retreat with lots of visual interest. Get a behind-the-scenes look at our designer collaboration process, including which Stone Yard pieces they chose and why, from this Q&A session with Deluxe Designs of Arizona:

Please describe the inspiration behind this design project.

The homeowners hired us to design a modern mediterranean backyard oasis.

What made you choose Stone Yard Inc for this project, and how did our products align with your design vision?

The product styles, color palette, and quality were all key factors in selecting Stone Yard Inc. for this project.

What, specifically, drew you to the Stone Yard pieces that you used in this project?

We wanted to incorporate a blend of patterns and finishes to maintain visual interest throughout the yard. For this reason, we chose a combination of planters from the Zaragoza, Barro, Primitive, and Turo collections.

Walk us through the process of incorporating our products into your design. Were there any challenges or unique considerations?

Planters were a must have for this design, both from a visual and functional standpoint. The house was built on almost solid granite, which posed a challenge for the landscaping. Since excavation was limited, the planters became an essential tool for providing the plants with a habitable environment. The planters utilized in this design serve as beautiful vessels for the cacti, succulents, and shrubs planted, and really worked to visually soften the space.

How did Stone Yard products contribute to achieving the overall aesthetic and functionality you were aiming for in this project?

The natural and organic finishes and textures were the perfect fit for our client’s design aesthetic.

Were there any standout features or benefits of our products that you found particularly impactful for this design?

The glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFCR) material of the planters was a perfect fit for our project. It provided the look and feel of natural stone, but with a more manageable weight than natural stone or concrete.

Can you share any feedback from clients regarding the incorporation of Stone Yard products into the space?

Our client was immediately impressed with the quality of the products, and absolutely adored the selections we made.

In what ways do you believe that Stone Yard pieces added value or enhanced the overall appeal of the design?

Without the potted plants, this design would have lacked dimension. The planters truly enlivened the overall aesthetic of the entire outdoor living space.

Were there any customizations or special considerations made with our products to fit the specific needs or style preferences of the project?

The customization that Stone Yard offers was a key factor in the success of this project. The abundance of sizes, colors, styles, and collections that you offer allowed us to provide our clients with a variety of planters to choose from, and without being too repetitive.

What were the most rewarding aspects of working with Stone Yard on this project, and would you consider collaborating with us again for future designs?

The samples and shop drawings provided by the Stone Yard team ensured that our client knew what they were getting. And the entire process—the variety of collections offered, the customer service, and all the way to the final product—exceeded our expectations. As a result, the planters truly brought this design to life. We will absolutely be using Stone Yard for future projects!

Zaragoza Planter

The Zaragoza Planter has an elegantly tapered shape and a smooth silhouette with a textured pattern that has the feel of ancient earthenware, but updated to a more modern aesthetic. Clean lines met with a distinctive texture makes this planter a standout choice for showcasing plants, especially modern greenery like cacti, succulents, and ornamental grasses.

Barro Planter

With a deceivingly simple style, the Barro Planter still stuns, but in a subdued way. Grabbing the eye with its subtly rough texture, this streamlined planter has an almost flutelike silhouette, which is beautifully offset by its perfectly imperfect surface.

Primitive Planter

The raw charm of the Primitive Planter lies in the fact that it looks carved and hewn out of a rock face, and yet its smooth profile balances out the rough, craggy texture of this statement planter. The result is a piece that takes the neolithic into this century, for a new Stone Age that is all about modern luxury.

Turo Planter

With a nature-inspired texture and an overall organic appeal, the Turo Planter is a favorite for those that want to add visual interest and natural style to a space. Available in three gourd-like planter styles, as well as a low bowl planter and a tabletop vessel, the Turo is a masterpiece of style and substance.
